SUMMARY:Michael Grande
DESCRIPTION:Michael Grande\, one of the world’s beloved entertainers is returning this weekend. \nGrande\, who tours the world\, only performs in Cochise County twice per year. A singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist\, Grande brings laughter and tears to audience members as he moves from exciting instrumentals featuring his famous five-fingered picking technique and breathtaking guitar flourishes to his gentle\, almost caressing of the strings\, as his sexy\, smooth voice\, tells tales of soldiers\, families and the great depression. \nBut if the song is a sad one\, the mood is uplifted immediately by Grande inserting songs and stories of friends\, family and animals: a little girl’s first horse\, the loss of a stray dog that became a hero to a family it saved\, and the romantic love story of an Arabian stallion and mare. \nIn between songs\, Grande is known for his tales. Growing up in an Italian family\, he tells of being a child in Brooklyn\, N.Y.\, where he used to tie the tail of his coonskin cap to his bicycle and pretend it was a horse as he raced through the mean streets of Bensonhurst.  In his mind and his dreams\, he was always a cowboy\, and he was always in Arizona.

SUMMARY:Carra “Mamma Coal” Stasney with Alvin Blaine
DESCRIPTION:Carra “Mamma Coal” Stasney is a singer-songwriter steeped in the traditional sounds of country and roots music. Carra was born and raised near Detroit MI and recently transplanted to Tucson after living in Portland Oregon. Her mission as a musician is to connect and uplift people through her performance. Whether leading a six-piece band\, or playing a solo set\, she brings her full soul and spirit to each song. \nCarra cut her country music teeth by playing in several classic country cover bands\, singing songs by her heroes like Dolly Parton\, Emmylou Harris and Loretta Lynn. She also had the opportunity to regularly sing June Carter’s parts with a Johnny Cash tribute band. A committed songwriter\, she’s released four albums of original music\, two as band leader with American Cosmos and Copper & Coal\, and two solo efforts. Her last album Raven Haired Vixen was inspired by Willie Nelson’s narrative concept album Red Headed Stranger. Saving Country Music writer Kyle Coroneos wrote of the album\, “Mamma Coal has made an answer to Red Headed Stranger from a strong female point of view\, and in a way that both rises to the challenge\, honors the original effort\, and perhaps most importantly\, highlights her gifts to music as a singer and songwriter.” You can hear it on Spotify\, Amazon\, Apple Music and YouTube. \nAlvin Blaine’s career took off after performing Wildwood Flower for his dad at age 5. Up to that point\, Dad had prohibited the kids from playing any of his many instruments that graced the living room of Alvin’s childhood. \nSince then\, as a multi-genre\, multi-instrumentalist musician\, Alvin has performed in countless bands as a treasured and skilled sideman. With 25 years in Las Vegas as a professional musician\, he played everything from cowboy swing to jazz\, blues\, and country standards on the energized Vegas circuit honing his many skills. \nAdditionally\, many may recognize Alvin from his years behind the boards as the primary sound technician for Old Blue Sound\, and specifically for 15 years at Pickin’ in the Pines\, contributing to its outstanding success as the premier festival of the Southwest. \nOn pedal steel\, dobro\, banjo\, guitar and mandolin\, basically all things with strings—oh and let us not forget accordion—Alvin is a truly gifted musician and generous instructor.

SUMMARY:Carlson/Wilcox 47 (Jon Messenger substituting)
DESCRIPTION:Carlson/Wilcox 47 has cancelled due to illness. Substituting will be Jon Messenger.\n  \nCarlson/Wilcox 47 plays a variety of music\, including originals and covers of both current and traditional folk songs\, reflecting the style of James Taylor\, Jim Croce\, Joni Mitchell\, Ian Tyson\, and others. You could call their music Southwestern Folk Americana. \nKen Wilcox is a devotee of finger-style acoustic guitar and also plays the autoharp and ukulele. A recent transplant from San Diego\, he continues membership in San Diego Folk Heritage and the International Western Music Association. Ken has played various Southwest cowboy poetry/music festivals with Trails and Rails\, as a Sundown Rider\, and Ken’s own group\, Sidewinder. His last San Diego project was a Bob Dylan tribute band\, Montague Street. \nBruce and Nancy met at a New York college and started singing at coffee houses\, wine and cheese cafes\, and folk festivals. Bruce writes much of their material and has a song on an album produced in Nashville. At the 2018 Tucson Folk Festival\, he was a finalist in the lyric competition. They’ve played many other venues in New Mexico and Arizona\, including several gigs at the Music in the Park Series at Catalina State Park\, and a Dark Sky concert at Oracle State Park. \nCW-47 is geared to a listening audience who will appreciate the lyrics\, complex harmonies\, and intricate work on acoustic instruments. So come on out for an evening of music\, both laid back and energetic—a good cross section from early folk days\, the ‘70s\, and up to today.

SUMMARY:Liz & Pete
DESCRIPTION:She’s Liz\, he’s Pete\, they are Liz & Pete. Liz Cerepanya and Peter Dalton Ronstadt join musical forces to explore material old and new. Liz’s heartfelt voice with Pete’s haunting harmonies and rich guitar arrangements captivate the mind and tug at the heart.  After a few passing introductions in their shared music scene\, Liz Cerepanya joined Peter Dalton Ronstadt on stage at Monterey Court in Tucson in the fall of 2019. They had had a brief opportunity to work up a couple of songs\, including Rodney Crowell’s “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight”\, and an instant musical match was realized. The decision to make a record together was easy\, and quickly Liz and Pete began exploring material including the timeless songs of Alan Garr\, songs of their favorite songwriters and singers\, new and old compositions by Pete as well as classic songs from his father Michael Joseph Ronstadt’s repertoire. Liz and Pete’s natural element is just the two of them on stage accompanied by an acoustic guitar and the Pennsylvania Stompbox.

You already know three of the members if you’ve heard Way Out West or Dharmapoke at the AFP through the years – Tom Poley on guitar and banjo\, Emmy Creigh on guitar and Slim Rost on bass. Donny Russell rounds out the Out of the Blue quartet on mandolin. The band has a reputation for their unique\, signature vocal harmonies. Based in Tucson\, they have traveled throughout the Southwest playing their distinctive original songs as well as traditional bluegrass and Americana covers. They have toured Europe 3 times and won 2nd place in the Telluride Band competition in 1998. The band members have received honors from the Western Music Association and Tom Poley has won 5 songwriting awards from The John Hartford Festival Songwriting Challenge.
