Hello, Everyone!  May is a busy month for our guest artist schedule while Dolan Ellis tours Ireland.  We just finished a wonderful, fun weekend with Brenn Hill on stage.  What a voice that young man has.  Over the past three years, Brenn has been given Rising Star awards by both the AWA (Academy of Western Artists) and the WMA (Western Music Association), awarded Album of the Year, received numerous other nominations, and in 2004, was named AWA’s Male Vocalist of the Year.  We’re trying to get Brenn to come back in July . . . watch for the schedule.

Here’s what Dolan has on the schedule so far . . .

Sat. & Sun., May 7 & 8 . . . Tom Chambers.  Spend a Mother’s Day afternoon with the western music of Tom Chambers.  Tom sprinkles his music with humor and stories throughout his charming show.  He is a regular entertainer at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch in Tucson where he also stays busy training horses.  Tom’s dedication to western music goes way back, as he and Rex Allen, Sr. were the founders of the WMA (Western Music Association), a national organization well known for keeping the heritage and activity of western music alive and well.

Sat. & Sun., May 14 & 15 . . . Bud Strom, Cowboy Poet.  If you’ve seen Bud before, then you know you need not read any further.  Those that have seen Bud know his talent in writing fabulous poetry, telling darling stories, and best of all,  the bright color of his delivery in a performance.  His passion for all aspects of the ranching west --  the funny, the touching, the dramatic – shines throughout all of his work . . . never met an audience that didn’t love Bud.

Sat. & Sun., May 21 & 22 . . . Sue Harris.  An Arizona Folklore Preserve audience favorite, Sue has performed here at the AFP several times.  Sue’s unique voice and great guitar work bring you colorful ballads . . . a few historical, and several hysterical.  Her music is always light and so much fun.

Sat. & Sun., May 28 & 29 . . . Dolan Ellis.  Our favorite Balladeer returns from a month in Ireland to his stage to present his special Memorial Day Show. He’ll have songs celebrating the awakening of spring into summer.  More importantly, he’ll have music celebrating our beloved country and those who have given in order to protect her.

Sat. & Sun., June 4 & 5 . . . Dolan Ellis.  Arizona’s Official State Balladeer will be on stage once again with his ballads of our great Arizona West.

Sat. & Sun., August 20 & 21 . . . Dolan Ellis.  Yes, we realize we skipped several weeks here.  We’ll get the rest of that filled in later.  Right now we do know that Dolan will be performing this weekend at the Preserve.  We have a large tour coming on Sat., the 20th, and although we do have seats left for that day, you might consider visiting us on Sunday if you plan on coming out to the Arizona Folklore Preserve that weekend.

The summer months ahead present a slower season for our weekend performances with many of our local residents vacationing and our winter visitors temporarily gone.  Because we will be faced with special challenges in scheduling, we would gratefully ask for your assistance in making reservations this summer as soon as you know you will be coming to join us for a show.  We would like to have reservations made by the Thursday morning at 10 am before the weekend  . . . if we do not have the numbers we need by that time, we will be forced to cancel the show.  Now, that does not mean that if you wake up on a weekend morning and decide you’d like to come out to the AFP for a show that you cannot come out!  Just please always call so that we can let you know if we have cancelled a show.  We are also considering doing just one show per weekend . . . perhaps on Sunday only . . . through the summer months . . . give us feedback if you have any thoughts on this . . . we’ll keep you up to date if our scheduling changes.

Keep us in mind when considering settings for private parties, meetings, conferences, and weddings.  We’ve had some beautiful weddings in our lovely place!

You’ll find us 6 miles south of the center of town . . . go 6 miles south on Highway 92 to Ramsey Canyon Road, turn R or west . . . go up the canyon road about 3 ½ miles . . . you’ll see us on the left just a few hundred yards before the Nature Conservancy and before the Ramsey Canyon Inn B&B which, by the way, is a fabulous place to stay for the weekend!  The Nature Conservancy, with its glorious hiking, bird watching and darling gift shop, can be found right outside your front door when you stay at the Ramsey Canyon Inn. You can reach Vickie or Bill, great folks, at 520-378-3010.

Another great place to keep in mind is the Pueblo del Sol RV Resort.  Not only is it an ideal spot when RV traveling, but they also have very cute, cozy casitas . . . a nice place to stay, or to comfortably house guests you might be hosting from out of town.  You can call Ruth Ann Bomba at 520-378-0213.

We thank our good friends at the Cherry Creek Radio stations for helping us get our message to you . . . that’s Sean Michael Lisle on KWCD 92.3, playing our favorite country/western music . . . Grady Butler on K101  100.9, the best mix of 80’s, 90’s and today . . . and KTAN  1420, talk radio.  Good people, good radio!

And, as always, we thank all of you for your support in sharing the music, the stories, the heritage, and enjoying our beautiful little spot in Ramsey Canyon.  We truly know what a treasure we have in the Arizona Folklore Preserve, in Dolan Ellis, Arizona’s Official State Balladeer,  and in all the very talented guest artists that appear on our stage.  Come see us at the Preserve, where you’ll always find a smile!
